木肌／紋理通直，木肌細緻，觸感柔和，氣味芳香且具辛辣味。木材極為優良，木材材質緻密而堅靭，不矯裂，主供建築、傢俱、枕木、橋樑造船、雕刻及裝飾品使用。
色澤／紅黃略帶褐色，邊材黃白色。極其高貴淡雅，溫潤而美不勝收。
生長速度緩慢／台灣檜木生長緩慢所以密度高，為全世界最好的檜木料之首，長成直徑30公分需耗時兩百年。
瀕危物種／檜木是冰河時期遺留下的活化石，三千萬年前就出現於地球。全球僅剩六種，台灣就有台灣扁柏跟紅檜兩種。臺灣特有種也是瀕危物種。
