【CYPRESS –Urushi Finish Series｜Gilded Bamboo】

Stipe Bamboo is often referred to as “Golden Jade Bamboo.” Its fine grain runs naturally along the length of the pen, revealing the warmth and character of bamboo through its rich golden-brown tones. As bamboo varies naturally in diameter, only a limited portion of each stalk is suitable for pen making. From material selection, cutting, drilling, and fitting the barrel and cap, every step must be adapted to the characteristics of the individual piece of bamboo. Each pen is hand-shaped and finished by skilled craftsmen, resulting in a high material loss rate and making large-scale machine production virtually impossible.

Once the pen body is completed, the surface is finished with eight layers of raw urushi lacquer. Applied layer by layer, with repeated drying, refining, and polishing between coats, the process enhances the depth of the bamboo grain while creating a smooth and delicate feel in the hand. Urushi is more than a protective finish; it is a craft that allows the material to mature over time. It brings together the bamboo fibers, golden lines, and hand-polished luster, giving the pen a calm and living presence.

Through careful refinement, the character of bamboo is revealed in the pen body, while the layered lacquer brings out a warm and graceful luster.
