Description
【CYPRESS –Toki-tamenuri-Nonagon】
Toki-tamenuri is a specific lacquer technique in Japanese craftsmanship.
"Toki" refers to the crested ibis, which inhabits mountain forests at elevations of over 1000 meters. With its white feathers tinged with pink, it is known as the "bird of peach blossoms." Its vibrant red crest is a distinctive feature of the crested ibis, symbolizing auspiciousness. Revered as a bird deity, it is also hailed as the "Eastern jewel" due to its rarity.
Meanwhile, "tamenuri" is a style of applying multiple layers of transparent lacquer over a colored base. This technique allows the underlying colors to gradually emerge over time, creating a rich and profound visual effect.
